Asheville Beer Choir
Is a volunteer-run, at-cost organization that exists to bring people together through singing, supporting local businesses and building community.
We are led by Founder and Director Laura Williams and supported by appointed Board Members and Section Leaders
We welcome all to sing and make music with us and believe everyone deserves to feel safe and respected while doing so.
We recognize that how we treat each other — both inside and outside choir gatherings — shapes the health and harmony of our community.
We welcome singers of all backgrounds, ages (21+), and musical experience levels.
Membership Guidelines
We treat each other, our audiences, and our venue partners with kindness and respect.
Discrimination, harassment, or bullying — including on the basis of race, gender, sexuality, ability, age, or belief — have no place here.
Anyone can join; there are no auditions for the full ensemble.
Members are encouraged to attend regularly to prepare for performances.
To perform, members must attend the final rehearsal unless discussed and approved by the Director.
RSVP to performance dates as soon as possible.
Keep your music in a black three-ring binder, especially for performances.
Wear your ABC tee or event-specific attire for performances.
Small-group singers must communicate absences — preferably in advance — so song assignments can be adjusted if needed.
Alcohol consumption is optional. Drink responsibly to avoid too many wrong notes — or being sent home.
🍻 Venues & Partners
We’re guests wherever we sing. Treat staff, space, and equipment with care.
Follow all house rules or requests from the host venue.
Leave spaces as tidy as (or tidier than) we found them.
Be courteous to other patrons who didn’t expect to be part of a choir night.
Remember: when we sing, we represent Asheville Beer Choir — our reputation keeps doors open for future events.
💬 Communication & Conflict
We rely on kindness, honesty, and direct communication. If something feels uncomfortable or a misunderstanding arises, we encourage people to speak privately and respectfully with each other first — ideally before it grows.
If you need support or don’t feel comfortable addressing it directly, you can reach out to a trusted choir member or your Section Leader for help mediating.
Section Leaders may bring a concern to the Board only if the issue involves safety, harassment, or ongoing behavior that affects the group as a whole.
The Board’s role is to support the choir’s wellbeing and harmony — not to manage personal conflicts. However, we will step in when concerns involve safety, harassment, ongoing disruption, or group-wide impact.
Behavior that endangers others or disrupts the choir’s ability to function may result in dismissal from the ensemble.
We treat each other with respect and appreciation, and leave personal conflicts at the door. Everyone is welcome—harassment, intimidation, or discrimination are not. Our community is inclusive, but that doesn’t mean anything goes: harmful behavior has no place here. Sing and drink responsibly. Cheers!
